  1. Mississippi is the host state of 3 annual major golf championships
    1. PGA Tour’s Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson
    2. Champions Tour’s Rapiscan Systems Classic, played on Beau Rivage Casino Resort’s Fallen Oak Course.
    3. Korn Ferry tour’s North Mississippi Classic going down at the Country Club of Oxford
  2. Mississippi also hosted the 2019 US Women’s Amatuer Championship at Old Waverly in West Point last month crowning Gabriela Ruffels with her dramatic birdie birdie finish to seal the victory making her the first Austrailian in history to raise the Robert Cox Trophy.
  3. There are 153 golf courses in the state – here’s a list of the top 10 according to Golf Digest.
  4. Still flying under the radar of the masses is the Magnolia Golf Trail, a killer collection of courses throughout the state with pre-built packages ready made and sure to make all of your Mississippi golfing dreams come true.
  5. Get your Rock and Roll fix with a side trip to the childhood home of Elvis Presley

So if you’re not already on expedia booking your next Mississippi getaway let’s do a quick look at the Sanderson Farms Championship and some key admin insights for consideration.

As the second official tournament of the 2019-2020 PGA Tour season tournament, this year comes with some significant new upgrades. The tournament will no longer be considered an alternate event and now proudly claims it’s space as stand-alone event with a prize purse of $6.6 million, a 50% increase from 2018.

This major status upgrade change means the winner will receive the full benefits of a regular PGA Tour event named below:

  • 500 FedEx Cup points
  • An invitation to The Masters.
  • $1,188,000 payout as champion

I think it’s safe to say that both the Sanderson Farms Championship and the state of Mississippi are making big moves in the right direction to take the Mississippi golf scene to the next level.

Now for the big question… who will be the next to follow in the historic footsteps and add their name to the list of champions featuring golf legends like Roger Maltbie, Craig Stadler and Payne Stewart?
