Manage Your Pool Online

College Football Playoff Office Pool Ideas

college football playoff logoAre you excited for the first ever College Football Playoff and want to make it a bit more interesting with a friendly office pool?

I know I am.

So much so that I decided to write this article to provide some tools to help you manage your pool this year.

What’s great about this new format is that it preserves the tradition of the major college bowl games while giving four teams a shot to be crowned the true champion.

And, we have new options to create fun and engaging office pool formats! Since we’ve received great feedback and readership on our other office pool idea articles (see Masters Pool Ideas, Fun Office Pool Ideas, and Olympics Office Pool Ideas), we thought it would be a perfect time to list options for the college bowls and playoffs this year.

Format #1: Setup a simple bracket for the top 4 teams.

College Football Playoff Bracket

Once the final four teams are announced, have everyone in your pool choose the winners of the semi finals as well as the finals.

Scoring

5 ps for each correct team in final
10 pts for correct champion
Tie breaker – pick the point differential of the championship game.

The person with the most points after the championship playoff game wins.

Format #2: Pick one winner each round, but can only select a team once.

For the first round of four, each person selects one team that they think will win. If your team wins then you advance to the next round. If they lose in the first round, you are eliminated.

Everyone who advances gets to pick again once the championship game is set. The same team cannot be picked by the same person this time, so choose your picks wisely in the first round.

Whoever picks correctly for both the semi finals and the championship wins. If no one picks both correctly, then whoever picked at least the first round correctly wins.

For a tiebreaker, have each person who got beyond round one guess the point differential for the championship game.

Format #3: Weighted point system for playoff picks and bowl game picks.

This one is more complicated but maintains traditions of college bowl game pools while incorporating a new twist for the two playoff rounds. In order to recognize the importance of the playoff games, selecting the correct winner from those games is more heavily awarded when you tally your final score.

Scoring
15 points for national championship
5 points for playoff semi finals
2 points for all other bowl games

Tiebreaker
Choose the point differential of the national championship game.

Pick Deadline
All picks must be in before the first bowl game on December 20th at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

  1. Curt Walter says:

Do you have a college football pool for all the bowl games that doesn’t have to be manually managed?

    • Hi Curt- Sorry for the late response on this one … we don’t have online pools for College Bowl games, just the article about the different formats.
      Thanks,
      Sean
